Packing is often a serious problem for a lot of people and we have all sat on our suitcase at least once, willing it to close. Here are a few tips I've learnt or picked up from friends and family on how to pack lightly. - Make a list in advance. This both stops you from over-packing and stops you from forgetting things. - Take clothes that are versatile and can be dressed up or dressed down. Also make sure to check the weather so you are prepared. - Pack the heavier items (shoes, jeans, etc) at the bottom of your case so you can squeeze your smaller items around them. This also means you can pack flat and that everything won't slide down to the end of your case. - Roll up your clothes. This saves a lot of space and also tends to make things less creased than folding them up. - Get a small folding toiletry bag. Only take your essentials, you do not need a full make-up kit for a week holiday, and make sure that they are sealed. I recommend putting them in Ziploc bags even if you think they are sealed up tight. -If you are travelling alone I suggest taking a small emergency kit. This can contain first aid and medication...basically anything you wouldn't want to be caught without. I am clumsy so plasters are a big must for me! I hope these few basic tips have helped you. If you have any others then feel free to leave them in the comments! If there is any blog posts you would love to read then let me know. Happy travelling! So I have recently just moved back to the UK and thought a good idea would be to tell you all how I try and save money. A lot of my friends and friends of friends all struggle when they get to the end of the month because their bank account is low on funds, or they have just moved out for the first time and are struggling. Here are some things I do to save money.
So I have been away travelling for two years and decided it was time to move back and settle down again. It was not an easy decision, let me tell you that! Here are some things that I've learnt in the two weeks I've been back.
1 - It's bittersweet. You are forever changed but more often than not the people you are returning back to have stayed the same. Your friendships may change because of this, and that's okay. 2 - You will feel really excited to see your friends again and tell them about your travels. But the unfortunate truth is.. they aren't all that interested. You'll feel slightly out of place and like you don't quite belong anymore. 3 - You'll feel sad. You will miss the excitement of new places and people. The stress of finding a job and somewhere to live will weigh on you heavily. 4 - You'll have figured out that traveling, especially for an extended period of time, does something to you that you cannot prepare for. It changes your views on all aspects of life. You see everything in a new light and like it did for me, that may come as a huge shock. 5 - You'll feel overwhelmed yet underwhelmed at the same time. This will come in waves and make you feel fairly anxious a lot of the time. Things will get better, things will settle and things will be the way they are supposed to be. You just have to use your new outlook on life and turn it into a positive thing. See the beauty in being back home that other people don't notice because they see it everyday. Enjoy being home! Being trapped in a metal tin in the sky for hours on end is never pleasant, not even for frequent flyers. Here are some very basic tips to make your journey a bit more pleasant.
- Water, water and more water. I know it is boring and you have probably been told a thousand times, but drink water. Staying hydrated on a long haul flight is essential for the next day. If you want to wake up on holiday with dry lips, skin and a headache then feel free to skip the water. - Wear comfortable clothes. Take a jumper as sometimes long-haul flights can be freezing cold. Don't worry about looking pretty, wear your sweatpants and converse. The girl in her skinny jeans and heels will secretly be envious. - Make sure all your devices are charged. There is nothing worse than getting on a plane for 9+ hours and finding out your phone/laptop/tablet has no battery. Take a power bank or additional battery. You never know when you get off the plane if you will need to use one of your devices. - Check in early. Don't be that idiot that is stressed and manically running through the airport. Get there with plenty of time to check in so you can sit and have a nice coffee and relax before your flight. Get to the gate on time too, we all hate those people that hold up the plane and get on with a load of duty free shopping bags whilst we have been sat waiting for them. - Pack snacks. This is pretty self-explanatory for any of you that have eaten airplane food. -Skincare. Take your favourite travel-sized products to keep your skin refreshed on a long flight. I usually end up taking my Clarins HydraQuench moisturiser, the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour lip balm, some makeup remover wipes and whatever hand lotion I am currently loving. I also usually take a mascara and lip gloss to throw on so I look presentable when we land. -Take your headphones. I usually end up hating the airplane headphones and my ears end up killing me so it is definitely worth packing your own. Lastly, don't keep looking at the time and how long your flight has left. Sit back and try to enjoy the flight as best as you can and think of the beautiful destination you will be landing in. Happy travels! |
